Bible Verses: Water Baptism

But the earth was empty and unoccupied, and darknesses were over the face of the abyss; and so the Spirit of God was brought over the waters. (Genesis 1:2)

Therefore, Naaman arrived with his horses and chariots, and he stood at the door of the house of Elisha. And Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, “Go, and wash seven times in the Jordan, and your flesh will receive health, and you will be clean.” And becoming angry, Naaman went away, saying: “I thought that he would have come out to me, and, standing, would have invoked the name of the Lord, his God, and that he would have touched the place of the leprosy with his hand, and so have healed me. Are not the Abana and the Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel, so that I might wash in them and be cleansed?” But then, after he had turned himself away and was leaving with indignation, his servants approached him, and they said to him: “If the prophet had told you, father, to do something great, certainly you ought to have done it. How much more so, now that he has said to you: ‘Wash, and you will be clean?’ ” So he descended and washed in the Jordan seven times, in accord with the word of the man of God. And his flesh was restored, like the flesh of a little child. And he was made clean. (2 Kings 5:9-14)

And he said to them: “Go forth to the whole world and preach the Gospel to every creature. Whoever will have believed and been baptized will be saved. Yet truly, whoever will not have believed will be condemned. (Mark 16:15-16)

And Jesus, drawing near, spoke to them, saying: “All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go forth and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have ever commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, even to the consummation of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20)

Jesus responded: “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless one has been reborn by water and the Holy Spirit, he is not able to enter into the kingdom of God. (John 3:5)

After these things, Jesus and his disciples went into the land of Judea. And he was living there with them and baptizing. Now John was also baptizing, at Aenon near Salim, because there was much water in that place. And they were arriving and being baptized. (John 3:22-23)

Yet truly, Peter said to them: “Do penance; and be baptized, each one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, for the remission of your sins. And you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the Promise is for you and for your sons, and for all who are far away: for whomever the Lord our God will have called.” (Acts 2:38-39)

Do you not know that those of us who have been baptized in Christ Jesus have been baptized into his death? For through baptism we have been buried with him into death, so that, in the manner that Christ rose from the dead, by the glory of the Father, so may we also walk in the newness of life. (Romans 6:3-4)

For I do not want you to be ignorant, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and they all went across the sea. And in Moses, they all were baptized, in the cloud and in the sea. And they all ate of the same spiritual food. And they all drank of the same spiritual drink. And so, they all were drinking of the spiritual rock seeking to obtain them; and that rock was Christ. (1 Corinthians 10:1-4)
